Ennis F.W. is a drag king based out of Shanghai, China. (Ennis F. what?) Known as a dynamite triple-threat actor, singer, and dancer, Ennis combines a Puckish sexuality with a hip-hop energy and a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek humor. His performance credits include the Southwest Burlesque Showcase, Windy City Burlesque Festival, Gallup Pride, Durango Pride, and two years as a featured performer in the ShanghaiPRIDE LGBTQ pride festival in Shanghai, China. Part nü-metal rockstar, part 90s boy band badboy, Ennis is a charming emcee, an energetic crooner, and a glamdrogynous* drag performer.

  1. Hello Ennis!

I am the director of the documentary film, Berlin Transgression. Our film is about the daily struggles of drag queens and transsexual artists in Berlin, 25 years after the fall of the wall. We document how they fight against the violence of social norms in a witty and courageous manner. This project sheds light on the life of performers whose stage is mainly gay bars and fetish clubs. We followed five main characters not only to the back stage but also to their homes where they opened up their hearts about their deepest dreams and desires.

We are based in Berlin-Tokyo, and we strive to bring more people to the awareness of such a special group of struggling artists in Berlin, as well as of more general LGBTQ issues in our society.

I felt that you would be able to offer us insights into how we can bring this project to the attention of a broader audience. We are already or will be covered by Siegessäule Magazine and queer.de in Berlin, UpRisingStudio in Tokyo, Sing Tao Daily in the US, among others, in their February issues. And at the moment, we are looking for more media coverage for the film, as we have planned to launch our crowdfunding campaign on Feb 11, 2016, alongside Berlinale. We were wondering if you’d be interested in covering our story, i.e., mentioning us in your blog or to the drag community in Shanghai and in China overall. I am ashamed to admit that even though I was born and raised in China, I had little knowledge of the drag communities there.

For more information on our project, you can find us on

Our 5 minute teaser is available here: https://vimeo.com/130104516

If you are interested in our project, we could offer you further information through email concerning the process of making this film, our experience of working with the LGBTQ community in Berlin, our social commitments, etc.

I look forward to hearing from you!

    Best wishes,
    Joel L
    & Berlin Transgression Crew
